What changes
The document does not leave
It is read in the tab, with no upload. Cut the network to check.
Traces erased
Author, original software, comments, earlier versions: the file produced is rebuilt and keeps none of them.
The received document screened
The checker recovers the text under the black areas of a poorly redacted document, and blurs it on screen until you ask to read it.
The framework
In France, the confidentiality of sources is protected by the Press Freedom Act of 29 July 1881 (article 2). A published document can give away its source through its metadata, its layout or a detail in the text: reread it for that too.
What it does not do
- Blur faces and number plates in photos: that will come later.
- Remove what points to the source through the content: a date, a place, a turn of phrase. See pseudonymisation or anonymisation.
